Overview
You won’t hear anyone in St. Louis say the term “Mid County” in conversation like they do with West, North, and South County. To describe the group of inner-ring suburbs in St. Louis County, we refer to them as Mid County or Central County. This part of the county contains well-known towns that are very unique from one another. So rather than say “I live in Mid County,” anyone you talk to will say the name of the town they live in. For example, Ladue, Frontenac, Clayton, etc.
Mid County neighborhoods stack up well if you want great amenities, short commutes, and neighborhoods with personality. Towns like Ladue, Frontenac, Clayton, and Huntleigh are the most expensive (and beautiful) parts of the county. They are home to some of the wealthiest families in the St. Louis area. Gems like Kirkwood and Webster Groves are known for their charming small-town feel with tree-lined streets and gorgeous homes. Everything in Mid County feels rich in character, from the historic homes to the newly built ones.
It’s also centrally located for the stuff you’ll actually use: major hospitals and employers, the museums and zoo in Forest Park, and shopping & dining that doesn’t require a 30-minute drive. When you hear locals say “we’re 15 minutes from everything,” this is the part of town they’re talking about.

Mid County Neighborhoods
Strategic Location
Mid County sits right in the middle of the Greater St. Louis metropolitan area, wedged between the City of St. Louis and West St. Louis County. Head east and you’re downtown by way of Interstate 64. Head west and you’ll hit Town and Country, Des Peres, and Chesterfield. Go north and you’ll pass through Maryland Heights and Overland up toward Interstate 70.
That central location is what makes Mid County the “15 minutes from everything” zone. You’re close to North County, South County, and across the Missouri River into St. Charles County. This part of the county is the center of gravity for how people actually move through the St. Louis region on a day-to-day basis.
